Power On, part of the BUUK Infrastructure Group, are looking for Design Engineer who would like to help us reach our mission to “earn customer loyalty and drive business growth by providing consistently excellent service”.

Purpose of this role

To provide fit for purpose utility network designs, along with supporting design detail, calculations and civil works requirements forming a Construction Pack. This is a customer facing design role and the objective is that by implementing Power On practices and processes as well as customer satisfaction, the role will help support and grow the business.

Your key responsibilities are

Accountable to the Senior Design Engineer for quality, customer service and technical resolution.

Undertake Utility designs as instructed by the Senior Design Engineer within competency scope.

Ensuring planning and design work is in accordance with customer and business requirements and meets overall company objectives.

Work closely with Business Development, ESOs and Designers to develop tender, design, and construction designs to fully meet customer and business requirements, identifying and delivering strategies to deliver work within project timescales and budgets.

Be creative in finding solutions to resource / schedule problems to maintain project delivery programme and escalate to the appropriate person.

Fulfilling the role as a Designer as well as taking responsibility for all assigned resources acting with the delegated authority of the Senior Design Engineer.

Promotion of zero harm culture and adherence to all HSEQ compliance issues and supporting the project Health and Safety Plan.

Maintain awareness of HSEQ policies and procedures and ensure the Office is maintained as a safe place to work.

Ensure ‘Safety by Design’ through a Design Risk Assessment Process.

Promptly record all accidents and near misses.

Proactively manage HSEQ issues & concerns, working closely with Construction teams to ensure safety by design and an accident and incident free culture is maintained.

Contribute to your team, sharing knowledge and experience.

Liaise with colleagues across our business organisation to ensure effective delivery of tasks and to ensure project objectives are understood and met.

Represent Power On to customers and individuals from other companies with support from Senior or Design Engineers.

Any other duties as required by the manager.

Qualifications

Degree in engineering subject, technical subject equivalent (e.g. BTEC) or industry experience.

Experience/Knowledge

Knowledge of engineering principles.

Knowledge of health and safety legislation.

Abilities/Skills

Excellent verbal communication skills.

Excellent organisation skills.

Ability to use Microsoft Office programmes or equivalent.

Desirable

Chartered/Incorporated Engineer status or aspiring towards one.

Experience working on development sites, utility new connections experience.

Understanding of construction principles.

Proficient in using AutoCAD.
