Power On, part of the BUUK Infrastructure Group, are looking for Commercial Director (PO) who would like to help us reach our mission to “earn customer loyalty and drive business growth by providing consistently excellent service”.
Purpose of this role
The role holder will bring deep understanding of financial controls and cost‑management practices within construction and utilities, ensuring commercial decisions improve margin performance, protect commercial risk, and support long‑term operational efficiency. The Commercial Director will lead and manage commercial strategy within Power On. This is a key leadership role responsible for contract negotiation for Power On’s supply chain and customers, pricing strategy and key customer relationship management. Demonstrating deep knowledge of the utilities sector, strong leadership, and expertise in commercial negotiations. The Commercial Director will play a pivotal role in supporting the Managing Director in achieving the company’s commercial and strategic objectives.
Your key responsibilities are
Develop and implement commercial strategies aligned with company goals and market conditions.
Lead negotiations of complex, high-value commercial contracts with customers and suppliers.
Monitor market trends, customer behaviour, and competitor activities to identify growth opportunities.
Drive innovation in commercial offerings, including bespoke solutions to address customer needs, sustainability solutions, and support continued development of digital platforms.
Ensure commercial decisions, proposals, and pricing strategies are underpinned by robust financial controls, accurate cost forecasting, and disciplined margin management consistent with construction‑sector best practice.
Monitor and manage contract performance and variations.
Provide strategic direction to the Sales and Tendering Team to ensure high-quality, competitive, and winning bids.
Working with the Sales and Pre Construction Directors lead and develop high-performing commercial and account management teams.
Prepare commercial modelling, reports, forecasts, and board papers as required.
Work closely with the Managing Director to shape and deliver the commercial strategy.
Ensure Power On maintains the required competencies and accreditations to deliver the group’s 10 year plan.
Gain a detailed understanding of competitors solutions and their USPs relative to Power On.
Work with the wider BUUK team to enhance Power On’s services and identify new market and product opportunities.
Develop pricing mechanisms based on customer feedback, competitive positioning, and market intelligence.
Apply detailed knowledge of construction‑industry financial controls, cost drivers, and contract mechanisms to redesign product offerings, streamline delivery models, and drive operational savings across Power On.
Lead, direct and motivate team members to be experts in their field and deliver first class customer service.
Embed strong commercial governance and financial control understanding across the wider team, ensuring bids, contracts, and product changes adhere to appropriate financial discipline and risk‑management standards.
Support the Sales and Pre-Construction Directors in enhancing the knowledge, quality and understanding within the wider Power On teams through the active diffusion of ideas, strategies, and best practice.
Qualifications
Degree level in business, economics, engineering or related field.
Experience/Knowledge
Proven experience in a senior commercial role within the UK construction and or utilities sector.
Strong track record in delivering commercial growth and leading negotiations.
Deep understanding of the utility infrastructure market in GB, associated regulatory frameworks, commonly used construction utility connection and adoption commercial contracts, developer’s requirements and competitive market structures.
Experience supporting and advising C-suite executives, particularly Managing Directors or CEOs.
Deep knowledge of financial control frameworks used in construction and utilities (including cost management, WIP controls, revenue recognition, and contract valuation practices).
Experience applying financial controls and commercial governance to improve margin performance and reduce operational cost within a construction or utilities environment.

Commercially minded, with a strategic outlook and a strong attention to detail.
Ability to apply deep commercial insight to influence product direction, pricing, and business strategy.
Strong understanding of financial controls, cost drivers, and commercial risk in construction environments, with the ability to challenge assumptions, improve processes, and drive operational efficiencies.
Creative problem‑solver capable of developing innovative commercial solutions that improve operational performance and reduce cost.
Strong analytical capability to identify inefficiencies and lead initiatives that deliver measurable operational savings.
Desirable
MBA, Surveyor or Engineering Chartership.
Understanding of SOX audit requirements.
Experience in the UK renewables and EHV electricity connections sectors.
Competent user of standard Microsoft packages.
