We are looking for Senior Water Scientist who would like to help us reach our mission to “earn customer loyalty and drive business growth by providing consistently excellent service”.

Purpose of this role

This role will help to ensure that the water quality delivered to customers complies with relevant legislation, DWI guidance and industry best-practice through the management of their projects and their team. They will assist with water resource management planning and drought planning complies with DEFRA’s requirements. 

Your key responsibilities are

To manage a team of Water Quality Scientists/Officers and Water Compliance Coordinators.

To provide coaching and mentoring to direct reports to ensure that they have the appropriate skills to meet the department’s key objectives.

To oversee and deliver regulatory reporting to strict deadlines which includes drinking water safely plans, compliance data, and event reporting.

Manage you and your team’s projects and investigatory work to ensure delivery against project plans and agreed timelines.

To support your team and deliver exceptional customer service by offering water quality advice and when required investigatory work.

Advise other areas of the business on specific water quality matters, including emergency incidents.

Support the Water Quality Team by delivering on internal and external targets, particularly during water quality events.

To join the water quality standby rota and provide water quality advice and support to the out of hours team.

Take action to maintain public health by identifying risks and ensuring that the appropriate remedial measures are taken including liaison with UKHSA, LHA, EA, water companies and other regulators.

Implement and further improve the quality management systems, including the adoption of best working practices.

To deputise for the Head of Water Regulation and Compliance as required.

Qualifications

Degree level in appropriate technical discipline.

Technically competent on the full Microsoft suite of software.

Experience/Knowledge

Experience of working in a relevant scientific field.

Experience of working with water industry regulators, water companies and stakeholders.

A strong understanding of water quality regulations, water quality science, water quality customer service and public health issues.

Experience of coaching, training and/or mentoring.

Abilities/Skills

Be able to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Maintain a helpful and customer focussed work environment.

A high standard of written and verbal communication.

Strong analytical skills and be able to handle large amounts of diverse data.

Able to provide accurate quality work within department and company.

Desirable

Working towards or registered with an appropriate professional institution.

Experience of leading and managing a team.

An understanding of water resources and how the supply-balance is maintained.

An understanding of contaminated land assessments.

Conditions of Employment

You are required to have your criminal records checked through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). This is due to going into customers’ homes.
