FibreNest, part of the BUUK Infrastructure Group, are looking for Cabling and Civils Engineer who would like to help us reach our mission to “earn customer loyalty and drive business growth by providing consistently excellent service”.
Purpose of this role
FibreNest delivers full-fibre ultrafast broadband directly into new homes across the UK. You will install underground fibre infrastructure on residential new-build sites, ensuring every property is ready for service by handover. You’ll work closely with developers, groundworks teams, and site safety staff to deliver reliable, compliant cabling to FibreNest standards and UK telecoms regulations.
Your key responsibilities are
Read and interpret site plans, duct layouts, and build specifications for new estates.
Inspect trenches, ducts, sub-ducts, and chambers before cabling; report blockages, damage, or non-compliant routes.
Coordinate with main contractors to confirm timing, avoid clashes with other trades, and ensure safe access.
Follow site rules, CDM Regulations 2015, and Scottish road/highway safety guidance.
Pull, blow, or route single-mode fibre cables through underground ducts/sub-ducts from distribution points to plot boundary boxes/termination chambers.
Maintain correct bend radii, tension limits, and cable protection to prevent damage.
Lay, secure, and seal cables in chambers; install draw ropes, markers, and identification labels.
Install plot service tails to external wall entry points in line with FibreNest developer agreements.
Carry out basic reinstatement of ducts/chambers where required.
Use OTDRs, optical power meters, and visual fault locators to test continuity, loss, and integrity
Record all test results, cable routes, lengths, and asset IDs in FibreNest systems.
Resolve simple faults or damage; escalate complex issues promptly.
Ensure work meets FibreNest standards, Openreach/Ofcom best practice, and NHBC requirements.
Wear correct PPE; complete daily pre-start checks, risk assessments, and permit-to-work procedures.
Locate existing utilities using CAT & Genny before any work; avoid live services.
Work safely in trenches, near plant, and on live construction sites.
Report accidents, near-misses, or unsafe conditions immediately.
Keep accurate timesheets, site logs, and handover records.
Qualifications
CSCS card (Blue/Gold).
CITB health & safety certificate.
NRSWA, SA001/SA002, or streetworks.
Experience/Knowledge
Previous experience installing underground fibre or telecoms cabling, ideally on new-build developments.
Understanding of ducting, sub-ducts, cable routing, and fibre handling best practice.
Confident using CAT & Genny, OTDR, power meters, and basic hand/power tools.
Knowledge of CDM Regulations, HSE safety rules, and site welfare standards.
Ability to read site drawings and network schematics.
Reliable, organised, and able to work alone or as part of a small gang.
