GTC, part of the BUUK Infrastructure Group, are looking for Electricity Policy and Standards Engineer who would like to help us reach our mission to “earn customer loyalty and drive business growth by providing consistently excellent service”.
Purpose of this role
Develop and facilitate the review and update of technical standards, policies, technical bulletins and safety alerts for the design, construction, operation and decommissioning of electricity networks for adoption.
Your key responsibilities are
Develop technical standards for the design, construction and delivery of network projects, with specific reference to Inspection & Maintenance activities, including protection design and testing.
Complete updates of technical standards, policies, technical bulletins and safety alerts for the design, construction, operation and decommissioning of electricity networks for BUUK, under a priority basis system and working closely with BUUK document team.
Liaise with other departments internally to ensure procedures are up to date and co-ordinated.
Work closely with Electricity Asset Manager, clients, contractors Independent Connection Providers (ICPs) and internal resources to ensure that the standards used by ENC are complaint with all the legislation, including Health and Safety matters that ENC has to comply with.
Represent the business at industry standard groups including with the Energy Networks Association and Independent Networks Association and other groups as required.
Work closely with the Asset Management & Innovation teams on the development of policies relating to Low Carbon Technology and its impact on ENC Networks e.g. PV, ground/air source heat pumps, CHP, solar heat, EV.
Support the Asset Manager for all Health and Safety issues regarding the Operation and Maintenance of ENC’s networks.
Provide technical response to asset design queries, as well as Electro Magnetic Fields (EMF) and noise complaints in relation to distribution substations.
To support the process of carrying out post fault/failure inspections and inspection reports of electricity assets.
To ensure that the protection settings on all our key strategic sites are correct and up to date.
Approval of Electrical designs - DOAG level will define limit of authority.
Any other duties as deemed appropriate by the Head of Electricity Asset Management or the Electricity Asset Manager.
Qualifications
Minimum of HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Membership at a recognised engineering institution, e.g. IET.
Current CSCS card.
Experience/Knowledge
Experience in electricity distribution systems up to and including 33kV.
Understanding of the relevant health & safety legislation and procedures in the electricity distribution industry.
Working knowledge of current relevant legislation, Electrical Standards & Specifications and ENA Recommendations relating to electrical networks and be aware of the implications to the safe management of electrical networks based on these procedures.
Abilities/Skills
A high standard of written and verbal communication.
Provide accurate quality work within department and company.
High level negotiation with stakeholders regarding technical matters.
Desirable
Ideally qualified to CEng or working towards.
A current IOSH managing safely certificate.
Experience in training others.
Working knowledge of design IT and CAD systems.
Ability to use Microsoft Office programmes or equivalent.
Ability to use protection and modelling software for electricity network.
