We are looking for Asset Surveyor who would like to help us reach our mission to “earn customer loyalty and drive business growth by providing consistently excellent service”.

We are ideally looking for someone based in Exeter/Somerset.  This is a field based role covering the South West.

Purpose of this role

Conduct inspections and approvals for wastewater networks under Section 104 agreements, ensuring accurate asset data capture. Provide technical assurance on design and construction, resolve defects, and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver safe, reliable, and compliant networks, including pumping stations. Support operational investigations and drive continuous improvement in asset delivery processes.

Your key responsibilities are

Manage site inspections to the agreed regime for Section 104 adoptions: plan routes and appointments to optimise time and cost.

Undertake CCTV survey reviews and assess condition, connectivity and compliance; raise and track defects to resolution. Ensure surveys are compliant with IWNL latest specifications.

Inspect wastewater assets including rising mains, manholes, pumping stations and SUDs; witness tests/commissioning and verify documentation.

Issue clear approval/rejection reports and remediations; support developers with pragmatic design changes consistent with standards.

Record inspections, photos, test results and defects in IWNL asset systems and project directories with accurate metadata. Ensuring that stored data is ISO 55001 compliant.

Produce concise inspection reports and recommendations, highlighting risks, non-compliance.

Record any site changes on relevant databases and project directories.

Coordinate site activities with contractors and developers; manage expectations and provide timely updates. Working towards the two weeks SLA quota.

Support operational teams during incidents (blockages, overflows, alarms) and contribute to root-cause analyses and lessons learned.

Promote a helpful, customer-focused working environment and uphold IWNL/BUUK values.

Always Work safely: ensure contractors have the necessary training and equipment to enter confined space entry. E.g: gas monitoring, electrical isolation, biological hazards, working at height.

Ensure contractors supply suitable RAMS.

Stop work if unsafe. Raise a non-compliance form or a near miss report where applicable.

Comply with relevant legislation, technical standards and IWNL procedures; escalate non-compliance.

Provide feedback to asset delivery on recurring design or construction issues; propose standard details and guidance updates. To allow for future proofing.

Share learning with colleagues; support training and mentoring where required.

Authority to accept/reject adoptable assets.

Inspections within defined criteria; recommend corrective actions and minor design changes.

Escalates significant cost/scope implications to Asset Surveyor Team Leader.

Responsible for own itinerary, scheduling and report accuracy.

Inspections completed to schedule: ≥95% on-time.

Quality of reports: ≥98% accepted first time with no rework.

Customer satisfaction (developer feedback): ≥94%.

H&S compliance: zero preventable incidents; 100% RAMS checked

Qualifications

GCSEs in Maths and Science.

Experience/Knowledge

Water industry/developer services background covering design, installation, commissioning and operation of wastewater networks.

Practical experience of adoption inspections, CCTV review, defect management and pumping station checks.

Working knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and codes for water/wastewater networks.

Demonstrable H&S mindset and compliance.

Familiarity with telemetry/SCADA, asset databases and data-driven decision making.

Abilities/Skills

Strong written and verbal communication; able to produce clear, concise reports with photos and evidence.

Planning and time management; able to organise itineraries and prioritise workload.

Competent user of Microsoft 365 apps (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and general IT systems.

Problem solving, attention to detail, and professional resilience when working on construction sites.

Desirable

A-Levels; Degree/HNC in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related field.

Confined Space training (medium/high risk).

SSSTS/SMSTS.

NRSWA (Street Works) certification.

CAD/GIS experience.

Computer aided design knowledge.

Conditions of Employment

You will be required to participate in a standby rota.
You are required to have your criminal records checked through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). This is due to going into customers’ homes.
You will hold a driving licence.
